  Overview of the Route

Current Status of
This Project

This project exists as a proposal only.  Although it has prompted a great deal of interest leading to increased land conservation and trail building efforts, no concerted effort has been made to make the project a reality.

I returned it to the web in December 2004 with ongoing modifications.  Some of the statistics and information are out of date; in my spare time I'm working to correct that.

The New England Trail Project began as an idea in 1995; from then until 2000, I've put in thousands of hours of volunteer research into the proposal, both in-field and in-"office."  I began to construct this prototype website in 2000. The next step would be to present the project across New England, cultivate a Board of Directors, and turn it loose. However, in 2000, due to the demands of the graduate program I was attending through 2005, I found I no longer had the free time to devote to the project. And now that I've graduated, I no longer have the money or the time! Nonetheless, I've left the project up on the web in the hopes that it will continue to spark interest in land conservation throughout New England.

It is my hope that the proposal, incomplete as it is, will continue to inspire others, whether or not the New England Trail is actualized.

Sincerely,

T
he success of the proposal depends on you.

Right now, the New England Trail is only a proposal. Ambitious as it is, it can't succeed without your support.

We're not accepting financial contributions. Instead, we're asking that you make it known you want to see this project happen.  Here's what you can do:

  • If you belong to an conservation or recreational organization, mark your membership renewal form with "I support the N.E.T." Or contact your club directly and let them know how you feel.
  • If you don't belong to a club, consider joining one. Mark you registration form with, "I support the N.E.T." (See our list of clubs/ organizations).
  • Get the word out by mouth. Tell people about us. Take them for a hike along the route.
