  The East Branch: Rhode Island
Ponds and Ledges Region to Nicholas Farm

The North South Trail route here follows parts of the Tippecansett Trail, Narragansett Trail, and Pachuag Trail as well as shorter local trails. It enters conservation areas around Yawgoog Pond, Beach Pond, Ell Pond, Long Pond and Arcadia  Management Area. This is a region that the Nature Conservancy regards as one of New England's most ecologically significant areas. It contains dry upland pitch pine forest and ledges, extensive wetlands, and open vistas. It is considered one of Rhode Island's most scenic areas.

Beach Pond, Yawgoog Pond, Wincheck Pond, Blue Pond, Long Pond, Ell Pond, and Tippecansett Pond can all be reached from the traill. Ledges with scenic outlooks can be found around several of these ponds.

Following the ponds and ledges, the proposed route would visit Escoheag Hill, with views and a fire tower Stepstone Falls then follow Falls Brook up to Stepstone Falls  From the falls, the route would head north along the Connecticut border to Nicholas Farm Wildlife Management Area.
