Section W-10: Pellham Hills via the Metacomet-Monadnock Trail
and Robert Frost Trail
This section of the proposed New England Trail
would follow the Metacomet-Monadnock
Trail and the Robert
Frost Trail over the west escarpment of the Pellham Hills, a densely
wooded metamorphic plateau with occasional rocky outlooks, waterfalls, and deep
ravines.
W-10.0 Holland Glen Falls
An attractive waterfall located deep within a hemlock ravine.
W-10.1 Mount Lincoln
Mount Lincoln is the high point of the Pelham Hills; a fire tower, open to
the public, offers 360 degree views of the surrounding woodland and Connecticut
River Valley.
W-10.2 Buffum Falls
A series of cascades and flumes in a deep hemlock ravine.
W-10.3 Mount Orient
A popular hiking destination, Mount Orient offers open ledges with views to
the south.
W-10.4 Atkins Reservoir
The Robert Frost Trail passes along this undeveloped body of water. At
this point the proposed New England Trail would diverge from the
Metacomet-Monadnock Trail to follow the Robert Frost Trail.
W-10.5 Cushman Brook Ravine
Another deep ravine with cascades and hemlock clad slopes. The area is
popular for its swimming holes.
W-10.6 Puffers Pond
A popular swimming area, Puffers Pond offers a beach, interesting rock
formations with ledges that plunge into the pond, and a number of recreation
trails.
W-10.7 Leverett Knobs
Wooded ledges, moss covered boulders, and scenic forestland.
